The role
- Deliver fun & inspiring band-style ensemble sessions in primary schools across Merseyside, starting mid-September 2025
- Support children to develop musical confidence and soft skills
- Lead live performances in termly concerts with your pupils
- Build strong relationships with schools, teachers & parents
- Contribute to a thriving SoMi team, sharing experience & inspiration
SoMi Band Leaders are:
- Talented instrumentalists specialising in piano, ukulele, bass, guitar, percussion, or vocals with a basic proficiency in all other instruments
- Passionate teachers / ensemble leaders, capable of fostering creative, inclusive music-making
- Outgoing, confident & approachable, with a high level of integrity & resilience
- Highly collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with young children, the SoMi team, and school staff
- Committed to inspiring a culture of music within primary schools & increasing the uptake of children
- Able to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children

Contract & Pay
- Freelance basis, with a pay rate from £42 per hour of delivery
- Term-time hours, starting at 5-10 hours per week (9 AM – 3 PM)
- All administration, payments, and parental communication are managed by SoMi Academy
Essential Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in music or related field, with extensive ongoing professional practice
- At least 2 years teaching practice
- A strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, and resilience in a dynamic teaching environment
- Driving licence and own transport
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Kodály methodology, music pedagogy & alternative approaches to learning & development
- Experience in delivering an established curriculum across multiple year groups & instruments
- Prior experience delivering music in primary schools
